Below the ground we walk on, there are miles and miles of stone and metal. These are the layers of the Earth.
We live on the crust, or Lithosphere. The thinnest of the layers, the crust is somewhere between 5 and 100 km thick, or anywhere from 3 to 62 miles.
The deeper layers consist of: the upper mantle, the lower mantle, the outer core and the inner core at the very center.
